You can also experiment with different images on the Plamp to be reflected in your raindrop. That is something expected, due to gravity and the forces acted on them by the running wind. It should be in focus in your viewfinder. As the raindrops fell on the window, one could see their trajectories almost followed a parabola depending on their initial conditions. Now move the flower and Plamp to where it's in a straight line between your camera and the drop. ![]() Take the second flower and attach it to the Plamp. One way to do this to use a device called a Plamp, a plastic arm-like instrument that attaches to your tripod and is used to hold items in place for picture-taking.įirst, focus your macro lens on the center of the raindrop falling off the petal, where the image will appear. Let's say you're taking a photograph of a raindrop falling off the petal of a flower, and you want to reflect another object in the raindrop - in this case, another flower. In addition, it's possible to reflect whole images in the raindrop. This creates the appearance of blue raindrops falling on glass. You can experiment with lots of different backgrounds to generate different effects, like the reflection of a blue object in the raindrops against a light background. Think of it as creating a sort of optical illusion. Let's say you have a green forest with a blue sky behind your window - obscure the background enough and you can cause the raindrops to appear blue and green against a dark background. In this next section, we'll discuss how to create the illusion of colored raindrops using macro photography.īy obscuring the actual background image, you can cause it to be reflected into the raindrops themselves. ![]() If you're using a camera without manual settings, experiment with the automatic settings until you find a way to focus on the raindrops. Once again, shoot with the aperture wide open in order to keep the background out of focus. You can shoot as the rain is coming down or shortly after the rain has fallen and the drops sit on the window. Find a clean window with a fairly plain background. Now let's say that instead of taking pictures of raindrops on a flower or a leaf, we want to shoot a close up of a drop as it falls on a window. One recommended camera setting is shooting with the aperture wide open to give a blurry background while focused on the drop, and with an ISO of around 100 to 400. Now, you should be ready to take your shot. When you're ready, focus your macro lens on the center of the drop. Be careful not to bump the flower or you might lose your selected raindrop. Try to find a raindrop you can shoot through if you want to catch a reflection of other objects in the water. ![]()

That aside, more interesting is acting legend Harry Dean Stanton, an old friend and or enemy of Snake. Always felt that a bit hard to believe honestly, and felt that Carpenter could have done a little bit more with him.Ĭain: I think he was mostly there for the fun of being there, but yeah, Carpenter could have done way more with him. Raist: Yeah, Borgnine was most definitely underused, especially for an actor of his caliber. I mean, he’s certainly proven himself in the years since to be a great actor, so how little he gets to do here is a shame. Issac Hayes is horribly underused as the central villain of the story, I think. ![]() Great actor Lee Van Cleef gets to be the tough guy Commissioner. Ernest Borgnine, famous for Airwolf, but a well known dramatic actor for many years, (Flight of the Phoenix, anybody?) is somewhat underused, but adds a bit of fun and comedy to the film. Any favorites, or non favorites?Ĭain: There is a hell of a cast here, actually, and I think it often gets forgotten as most of the focus is really on Snake. Raist: Speaking of characters, there are quite a number of others in there. Mostly case it’s icky, but also cause my brain is enough to handle. Raist: You do know I already share a brain with Fistandantilus right? I mean.you can have his brain but don’t know if that will do you much goodĬain: Not touching that one, buddy. Jeezzz….we don’t have any different opinions on this one do we?Ĭain: Shared brain! Which reminds me, I’m trying to write three book series all at once, so if you could pitch in your brain half, that’d be great. I can’t think of any things I hate about him either. Raist: Well, as I wanted to ask myself this question too, I’m going along with you. Carpenter has always had a flair for the satirical, and while this movie is absolutely played straight, the undertones of satirizing the 80’s action genre are heavy, and so well handled through Russell’s grumbly portrayal. I mean, he’s basically all of them, rolled into one. To be honest, I like that Snake is written and performed the way he is. Raist: Well, I have always thought of this being a very cool character, but well are there any traits or things you hate about him?Ĭain: Nope. He’s just a strong, silent, scowling presence. The guy is basically an archetype with no real character given to him, and that’s kind of the point, and it works amazingly well. He’s the pure distillation of every 80’s action hero ever. Okay! He’s this gruff, cool, badass that has no shits to give and takes none, either. But never mind that, cause we aren’t actually talking about that guy. Out audience might not though…trust us: He’s cool, and how can he not be, he’s based on…actually, you were talking Cain…continue !Ĭain: I think literally everyone knows who Solid Snake is. Raist: I was playing with you earlier…of course I know who Solid Snake is. Like, literally, Solid Snake was based on Snake Plissken, so that’s what he’s like. He’s Solid Snake from the Metal Gear games. Raist: So Kurt plays this guy called Snake Plissken…what’s he like?Ĭain: Solid Snake. Which is awesome! Unless you actually think the same kind of weird shit I do, then maybe it’s just mildly terrifying. Well.glad to see we are still on the same page though!Ĭain: When are we not? I swear, we share a brain. Raist: Hey I told you I felt dumb about asking this question. It’s brilliant, and kind of subversive in how it mocks action films while being an action film. It’s not the best example of Carpenters work as a director, or Russell as an actor, yet there’s this sort of campy charm to it that makes the batshit crazy plot work. Raist: Let’s get one of the most obvious questions out of the way first, and yeah I feel dumb for asking this as I already know the answer anyways, but well…did you like this film?Ĭain: Duh. Raist: Naw…I do that all the time: it’s called engaging the audience!Ĭain: Is that we’re calling it? Sweet! I do that shit all the time, then! Ooh… electro shock… I feel much better now! Which is a weird thing to do, as Manhattan is kind of a major part of the American economy. ![]() In this dark and terrible future, crime has exploded across the country, forcing the United States to convert Manhattan Island into a maximum security prison. This movie is set in the far off future of 1997. ![]() ![]() Raist: Could you tell our audience who may or may not have heard about this film what this movie is about? Raist: Ha, so I guess I’m not the only one who has that problem, I though it was just me and old age.Ĭain: Well, I’m not one to tell you that isn’t true. Then I watch it again, and there’s like ten things I forgot about. I’ve seen this movie so many times it’s crazy. How about you?Ĭain: Man, I lost count years ago. Raist: Well, I have lost count of the number of times I have seen this film. ![]() ![]() Peter used similar words: “But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night ” ( 2Pet. ![]() As there are a number of package options with Cinema 4D, don’t over-buy. (and when compared to other CG applications that also include texture painting) ValueĪs with all the Cinema 4D packages, the Studio edition of C4D R15 is a not an insignificant procurement if you are buying new. State-of-the-art when debuted and still extremely powerful and well integrated with Photoshop, the UV mapping/mesh adjusting abilities are now a bit clunky to use in contrast to the rest of the program. I’ve found R15 to be very, very stable and coupled with auto-saves, makes blood pressure stay low.įor all of the advances in C4D over the years, one thing leaves me puzzled: the lack of development in the included BodyPaint 3D, which is the texture painting component of C4D. While kind to older 64 bit configurations, check the minimum spec and make sure you meet it. Realism is much more easily achieved with the Physical Camera and Global Illumination If you use one of the many commercial render farms for C4D, your expenses will also drop because of the shortened render times. For networked users, Team Render abilities shorten that further still. This has significantly been improved for the Physical Camera with Global Illumination settings used for photo-realistic output. Once you no longer have to worry about stability with a program, there is only one real king in the performance arena: Render Time. You can select individual letters, portions of a word, or entire sentence/text groups and adjust them with the on-screen GUI or use the numeric inputs in the text tool control panel. A boon for 3D signage or titling, there is now native, interactive support for all typographic adjustments including: kerning, tracking, baseline shift, uniform scaling and horizontal/vertical independent scaling. The Grass function, however, has been streamlined for grass appearance and render speeds, even when using multiple Grass shaders on a single object to increase randomness and natural presentation.Īnother very welcome enhancement is the improvement of typographic controls. There have been ‘hacks’ for this in C4D and other software packages that typically involve repurposing the Hair shading abilities. New options in C4D R15 include a nice, very welcome Architectural Grass shader. ![]() Grass can be photo-realistic or stylized wet or dry. Consequently, you get smooth jib shots with very little fuss, so creating match-moves for studio CG shots just got even easier. To wit, the new Crane Camera ability demonstrates the integration of real-world crane visual tools to manage the virtual camera. Maxon also doesn’t simply tack on new abilities without careful consideration. For example, the photo-realistic rendering capabilities of the Physical Camera now have fewer things you have to mess about with while still producing better, faster results.
